Ostrich

 

Linnean classification: Animalia, Chordata, Vertebrata, Aves, Palaeognathae, Struthioniformes, Struthionidae, Struthio, Struthio camelus

 

Regulator because it is a warm blooded animal or an endotherm and can maintain optimum temperature without relying upon its environment.

 

Dormant because while most birds can migrate with their wings capable of flighthe ostrich with its flightless wings stays in one area.

 

Consumer because it is a heterotroph not an autotroph and cannot make its own food. This animal relies on other sources of nutrients from other organisms in ordeto survive.

 

Omnivore because they mostly feed on plants, seeds, fruits, leaves and meats such as small vertebrates. Such animals are lizards, frogs and small birds and even insects such as locusts and grasshoppers.

 

Generalist because ostriches are able to live in multiple environements or biomes. Also, ostriches are capable of eating a variety of organisms such as vegetation or invertebrates

 

Niche: The ostrich inhabits many areas, the specific subspecies, Struthio camelus, lives in the savanna region from the countries of Ethiopia and Sudan. Generally, ostriches can inhabit areas of north and south Africa. These animals tend to travel with other grazing animals such as zebras and antelopes and mainly eat seeds and shrubs but can also eat insects. Their predators include cheetahs, lions, african hunting dogs and hyenas.
