ZEBRA

 

Linnean classification: Animalia, Chordata, Mammalia, Perissodactyla, Equidae, Equus, Hippotigris, Equus quagga.  

 

Regulator because it is a warm blooded animal and is able to maintain optimum temperature for its body to function.

 

Migration because zebras are considered to be conduct the longest land migration as a mammal in africa. They travel in a 300 mile round trip and travel throughout a region called Ngorongoro area in southern Tanzania to the Masai Mara in lower Kenya. They travel as the environment such as rain dictates.

 

Consumer because it is a heterotroph and cannot make food for itself. Instead it relies upon other organisms for essential nutrients to survive.

 

Herbivore because it has a special digestive system for breaking down plant vegetation for nutrients. This animal graze for long periods of time to gain as much energy as possible and feeds upon mostly grasses but can eat shrubs, twigs, leaves and bark

 

Generalist because this species are in numerous habitats from savannas, grasslands, mountainous ranges, coastal hills to scrublands.

 

Niche: Inhabiting many different habitats, zebras eat plants such as grass, twigs and shrubs. Their digestive system allows lower nutritional quality than most other herbivores. When attacked by a predator, they herd in packs to guard fowls. Their usual predators are wild dogs, leopards, hyenas and lions.
