Mallard

 

Linnean Classification: Eukarya, Animalia, Chordata, Aves, Anseriformes, Anatidae, Anas,  Anas platyrhynchos.

 

Regulator because  it is a warm - blooded organism and and is able to maintain relatively constant internal conditions.

 

Migration because mallards residing in colder habitats may fly south during the winter.

 

Generalist because it is able to live in many different habitats from temperate to subtropical.

 

Consumer because it cannot make its own food and must get its nutrients from other organisms.

 

Omnivore because their diet is widely varied and consists of many foods from plants to frogs and fish.

 

Niche: Mallards are probably the most familiar ducks of them all. They are found throughout North America and Eurasia in ponds, estuaries and wetlands. They eat many things from small crustaceans to amphibians to plants to gravel. Their predators include foxes, mink, raccoons,  and crow.
